The Objective
In Dartford, Kent, more than 10,000m2 of CelotexPL4000 plasterboard laminate has helped to deliver outstanding thermal performance and an excellent aesthetic finish at the regeneration of the Stone House Hospital – formerly known as the City of London Lunatic Asylum.
Built in the 1860s, the hospital comprises of a series of historic Grade II listed buildings in a mature parkland setting. Thoughtfully refurbished by conversion specialist PJ Livesey, the buildings have been redeveloped to provide a mixture of high specification houses and exclusive apartments.
The Solution
To ensure all the new homes met Building Regulations and the performance levels to achieve the Eco Homes Standard of Very Good, PJ Livesey specified Celotex PL4000 – the high performance thermal insulation board comprising of Celotex PIR insulation bonded to 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard.
Installed by Bluegyp, Celotex PL4000 offers a lambda value of 0.022 W/m2K, Ofgem approval and BBA certification. This premium product delivers high levels of thermal efficiency and can be installed internally using direct bond or mechanical fix techniques for maximum flexibility and installation speed for new build and refurbishment projects. To meet the targeted U-value of 0.29W/m2K with a system that worked alongside the solid wall structure, Celotex PL4000 proved an excellent specification. The product's ability to meet thermal requirements whilst helping to minimise wall thickness and therefore enhancing floor space within the homes, was of paramount importance and achieved
